Modern History
The Modern History Collection marks the first collaboration between Art de Vivre and Pierre Gonalons, and its ambition is as striking as its execution: to bring the artistic expressiveness and opulence of painted Parisian ceilings down to the floor. Having spent years living and working in Paris, Gonalons draws upon the city's layered aesthetic history with ease, especially the palatial ceiling paintings of the 17th century. Like a coffered ceiling adorned with stucco, the rug becomes a symbolic frame within which the entire interior composition falls beautifully into place. The idea of «The sky at our feet» also became the conceptual foundation for the photo shoot of the collection in Paris. Now, one can gaze at the sky reflected in architectural surfaces — seeing it upside down, through the prism of movement. This vision was brought to life with the help of parkour athlete Lola Roy.
The memory of architecture.
The collection begins with a simple question: how can the visual order of architecture become a surface that is felt rather than observed?
Plans and elevations are dismantled into borders, thresholds and fields of colour. Their precision remains visible, but the hand-knotted construction introduces depth, softness and slight irregularity. Wool carries the volume of the drawing. Silk marks the light. As the viewpoint changes, the geometry appears to open and close like a room.

History is not repeated. It is redrawn in wool and silk.
Modern History translates the order of classical architecture into tactile fields of wool and silk. A classical code, loosened. Arches, floor plans and ornamental borders are reduced to proportion, rhythm and colour. Familiar architectural signs become quiet objects for contemporary interiors.
