SKAZKI translates the visual grammar of Russian folk painting into tactile fields of wool, silk and alpaca.
The Skazki collection by Alesya Medvedeva and Alena Zhernakova of the Art de Vivre Atelier brings the world of Russian fairy tales to life. The motifs of traditional folk crafts and the decorative heritage of various regions of Russia are reimagined through a contemporary artistic lens. This deep engagement with cultural codes transforms each rug into a collectible object where contemporary design, history and centuries of craftsmanship are woven together.
Mythological symbolism of color, smooth relief.
The collection begins with a simple question: how can the visual language of Russian folk painting become a surface that is felt rather than observed?
Tales and ornaments are dismantled into borders, thresholds and fields of colour. Their narrative precision remains visible, but the hand-knotted construction introduces depth, softness and slight irregularity. Wool carries the volume of the drawing. Silk marks the light. As the viewpoint changes, the ornament appears to open and close like a story.

Atelier Art de Vivre.
The four designs were inspired by four traditions of traditional wood painting: Uftyuzhskaya, Velikoustyugskaya, Boretskaya and Gorodets. Through their delicate handling of colour and texture, the authors — Alesya Medvedeva and Alyona Zhernakova — succeeded in conveying the distinctive style and palette of folk ornament.
